Hinesville Comprehensive Pet Vaccinations & Exams

Pet Vaccinations and Exams in HinesvillePets are like their owners in many ways, including their need for regular health checkups. Even if a pet appears healthy on the outside or never spends time outside, it still needs to see a vet every year for a wellness exam. These visits serve as the first line of defense against illnesses and can keep pets healthy and happy for much longer than pets that do not receive regular veterinary care.

At Liberty Veterinary Medical Center, we believe the best way to treat a health problem is to prevent it. That’s why we recommend wellness exams at least once a year, combined with a preventive vaccination plan, for your four-legged friend. This includes a heartworm test and vaccinations. Although we have the capabilities to diagnose and treat a number of illnesses, our ultimate goal is to prevent them.

About the Wellness Exam

For young and adult dogs and cats, we recommend a comprehensive wellness exam every year as well as a semi-annual health check every 6 months. For senior pets, we recommend bi-annual visits to accommodate the changes and health risks that come with age. Each wellness exam consists of a nose-to-tail assessment of your pet by one of our veterinarians, as well as recommendations for treatment, prevention, and/or advanced diagnostics (X-rays, blood work, etc.), if necessary. Our doctors can develop an individualized plan specifically for your pet based on breed, age, and lifestyle, which can be modified as needed during future visits. Please feel free to bring any concerns or questions about your pet to our attention during these visits. If Max has been reluctant to eat lately, Fluffy’s been losing weight, or maybe you’ve noticed behavioral changes, let us know. This information ultimately helps us to find the root of the problem so we can treat it as quickly and effectively as possible.

These annual wellness exams and testing allow you to keep your pet’s relationship with us current while also allowing you to fill your pet’s medications, including heartworm and flea control products.

Pet Vaccinations

Vaccines are another important component of wellness visits because they provide protection against viruses and diseases. Vaccines help prevent deadly diseases and viruses, such as rabies, canine distemper and parvovirus, and feline leukemia. Our fully trained staff can customize a vaccination schedule at your pet’s first visit to Liberty Veterinary Medical Center.

Parasite Control

Heartworms, fleas, and ticks are among the many dreaded parasites of pets, as they can lead to a number of potentially serious diseases. Heartworm disease is fatal if left untreated in dogs, and the treatment is very expensive and has associated risks for your dog. Heartworm preventatives are a fraction of the cost of heartworm treatment, and there are many options available to make it as easy and convenient as possible to prevent this deadly disease. To protect your pet from heartworms and other parasitic diseases, we recommend that you keep him/her on a year-round parasite preventive medication. We can discuss our suggestions for the best products to meet your pet’s needs during your next visit. We also recommend semi-annual (every six months) intestinal parasite screenings so we can be sure that your pet is parasite-free or provide treatment if he/she isn’t.
